Plumbing System

A home's plumbing system includes the sewer, gas, and water systems.

Water Supply Line

The water supply line is the home's water source. In remote homes, water is pumped from a well into the water supply line.

Water Heater

The water heater is a pressurized tank of heated water. Water is pumped into this tank from the water supply line.

The water header is the source for hot water pipes.

Water Return Line

The water return line is a large pipe connecting the home to a septic tank or city sewer.

Drain Lines

Drain lines carry water from appliances to the water return line.

Vent Stack

The vent stack is a vertical pipe that provides airflow to the plumbing system. It prevents pressure build-up.

Scale

Scale (Calcium Carbonate) is a compound commonly found in drinking water.

Scale build-ups can damage plumbing systems.

Different types of filters may be installed to remove calcium carbonate from water.
