How to Replace an audi tt key fob not working G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located at the top of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

(Image: https://g28carkeys.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Peugeot-2021-New-Black.png)The sensor is used to correlate with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain of timing. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test because there are several pins on the connector and each one has different functions. The best method for doing this is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is operational, it should be reading approximately 1000 ohms. Look for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, I experienced a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing any more. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs. Three were soaked with gazoline and the fourth one was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole and when i start the engine without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump out. The 4th one stays shut. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I got zero ohm. I'm assuming the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it runs fine with the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem continues to occur at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars while the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not sure what to do. I believe that I've all other possibilities out. I'm worried that i might have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find the spare in a salvage shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them - just put your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing up). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that needs to know the position and speed of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injector, for example. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If either of these sensors go bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner which can lead to engine shutdown.

If you are experiencing any of these issues, it is likely your sensor is deteriorating and requires replacement audi key cost. They're inexpensive and easy to locate especially in the case of an Bosch model like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this unit is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be the reason behind a slew of issues with your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission in your audi spare key replacement since it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slowly the engine is turning. If the sensor fails, it could affect the performance of the transmission as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU uses this signal to control the amount of fuel and boost, and also to timigrate. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for failure by checking continuity between it and Car key replacement audi the tachometer. You can also check continuity between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should detect the resistance to be around 1000 ohms in these areas. This is a typical part that is found across the Audi tt key programming 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC until the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU. Good parts could be found in wrecking yards.
