How to Replace an audi tt key replacement (Ebooksworld.com.pl) G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician teaches you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located near the edges of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 via the grey wire. The ECU uses this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can trigger spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jump in the chain link of the upper chain. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult as there are two different connector pins, and they serve different purposes but the most effective method to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is fully operational, it should be reading around 1000 ohms. If you're experiencing issues with this component, look for signs of coolant or replacement Audi key oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll i had a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors are not firing any more. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs. Three were drenched with gazoline the fourth one was dry. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector and when i start the engine with no sparks, the three with gazoline jump out. The 4th one remains shut. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I assume that the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when it is unplugged, Audi A1 keys shows a temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not sure what to do, i believe that i've ruled out everything else. But i am afraid I might have missed something. Let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is the same as the G4 and both are used in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a wrecking yard or from a parts store. Testing them is easy - put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black end of the connector). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that has to be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about fuel injector timing etc. To accomplish this, it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these goes wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner that could cause engine shut down.

A damaged G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate gearbox speed counter and a gearbox which shifts faster than normal, or an unfire when in the gear. It is probable that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you encounter any of these signs. They are cheap and easy-to-find, especially when they're a Bosch unit like ours. Alternatively, the GM version of this unit is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine sensor could cause a number of problems in your vehicle. It's a crucial component of the transmission in your audi a3 key fob because it relays information to the ECU regarding how fast or slowly the car's engine is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other components in the car key cover audi to be affected.

It sends an electrical signal through a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU is then able to process this signal to control fuel, timig and boost, and also transmitting it to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by checking continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should see approximately 1000 ohms resistance between those two pins. This is a common feature across the Audi 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 Du, so you might find good ones in wrecking yards.
